ome people ask, “what is a blog”, “what’s blogging about?” Well, most people
have diaries where they write about the day’s events. A blog is like an
online diary. There, you can share posts you create, write about your travel
destinations, share images with friends, videos, and a whole bunch of things.
You blog on a blogging platform. There are blogging
platforms which differ on the host of the blog.Blog hosting is like asking
someone to manage your blog’s files and help you put them online.
There are two different kinds of hosting
· The free hosting.
Several platforms like the
famous Google blogger and WordPress blogs offer this. It’s free because you don’t
have to pay for it. It gives you a link which is referred to as your domain
name. when someone searches, or enters the domain name, your blog comes up. The
domain names, because they are free, come as sub-domains though I’ll show you
how to change that later. Google gives you a domain that looks like “Mynewblog.blogspot.com”,
“chiechezoghimuchenna.blogspot.com”, “greatsite.blogspot.com”. Similarly,
WordPress offers domain names that look like “Mynewblog.wordpress.com”, ”chiechezoghimuchenna.wordpress.com”,”greatsites.wordpress.com”. Your site has a default domain name that comes in the format shown but you
could always purchase a domain name so your domain name looks like “Mynewblog.com”, ”chiechezoghimuchenna.com”, ”Greatsites.com”.
That said, let’s talk about the other kind of hosting.
· This is the “paid” hosting.
Here you pay a blog host to put
your site’s files online. WordPress offers paid hosting too. Blog beginners can
startup with the free hosting but the paid hosting is recommended because it
offers you the opportunity to easily customize your site. On the other hand, it
can be difficult. Anyway, I’ll talk about the benefits and drawbacks of the two
types of hosting in a later post.
